John Wilkinson, another founder member of the Society who was made an Honorary Life Member when work commitments kept him from attending meetings, presented this Trophy, also made by Frank Preston.
The Trophy is a model of one of the greatest illusions to be invented in modern times - The Zig Zag Lady. Robert Harbin, one of magic's most prolific inventors, designed the illusion in the 1960's and it has entertained and fooled audiences throughout the world ever since. An assistant is placed standing upright in a long thin box. Razor sharp blades are pushed through her body isolating her tummy. The magician then pushes the assistant's tummy right out of the box. Her head, hands tummy and feet can be seen at all times!
The competition was first held in 1994. Sadly and rather surprisingly given the fact that magicians need to be somewhat extrovert to perform fewer members enter this competition than for the Close-Up Trophy and
so far two members of the Society have dominated ownership with their excellent and entertaining acts.
