The Surrey Society of Magicians holds two competitions annually: the Close-Up Competition, and the Stage Competition. Both are
open to all members.
The Close-Up Competition was first held in 1992 and the emphasis has always been on magical entertainment. There are therefore two "lay" judges and one magical judge to decide the winner who receives a miniature trophy to keep as well as holding the trophy itself for one year. Recently competition winners have also been awarded their next year's membership of the Society as an additional prize.
The Stage Competition was first held in 1994. Sadly and rather surprisingly given the fact that magicians need to be somewhat extrovert to perform fewer members enter this competition than for the Close-Up Trophy and so far two members of the Society have dominated ownership with their excellent and entertaining acts.
